new Maid and new Chinese Teacher

All change round here since returning from the UK last week, new maid seems to be rocking at the moment, even making Fresh Orange juice for us and delivering the Dry Cleaning on her day off over the weekend.

I also have a new Chinese teacher with whom I start lessons today, I actually came across her whilst she was giving a lesson to a student in STARBUCKS, and I watched from afar for about 10 minutes and was suitably impressed. although I am a bit worried as she showed my Business card to some of her other students who seem to know me from Clubs and Bars in Shanghai, surely I don't go out that much, do I ?

So if you see me and a Chinese lady in her late 20s in various Coffee Shops around Shanghai, do NOT come up to say HI, as it'll cost ya big $$$s

the saga continues ...

Shak,

Since you so openly shared your living expenses already, would you be willing to do the same for your Chinese tutor and maid? I'm also curious about what kind of quality you get for your money, as I'm guessing you pay a little more than I do. (My maid makes a little over 8/hour, and my tutor works for 40/hour.)

John

I would expect to pay a lot more than you dude, as you are the closest to a Sinologist that I know in Shanghai, I mean you even translated my Chinese character email the other day :)

Our new Ayi is on around 20rmb an hour and new Teacher is on 100rmb an hour.

Previous Ayi was around 10rmb an hour and Teacher was 60rmb an hour.

It's all a learning curve as far as I am concerned, as I have met foreigners here who are paying 150rmb an hour for their teacher and like 7rmb an hour for their AYI, and these are folks who have been here for a long time.

It's all trial and error I suppose when it comes to staff in China.

I'd pay upto 40rmb an hour for a real good Ayi who could speak english and had common sense, however 1 of those is probably selling stuff on eBay and advertising on Google adwords and making her fortune in China.

Hence why I am investing in Chinese lessons so I can go local, and maybe do a career change and become an Ayi myself.

Shak,

my ayi is an absolute star costs only 12RMB an hour, she does everything including collecting my air ticket from the travel agent. 20rmb is way too much!
